Hard at work in the garden

Location

Preschool is held in Church House, a listed building attached to the famous 'Cathedral in the Moor'.
The garden looks out onto the village green where ponies often graze peacefully.
The sessions begin and end upstairs where toys, activities and crafts are available for children to choose and there is a large space downstairs for more active play including bikes and equipment.
We have a fabulous garden with raised beds that the children planted last year. The lovely lawn, sand and water play ensure that there is always opportunity for the children to be outside during a session.

Jo has been Supervisor since 1999. She holds an NNEB and relevant Early Years qualifications. She has also been a childminder for many years and has fantasic experience & skills with children of all ages and stages of development.

Curriculum

Within the group all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. By means of developmentally appropriate play activities and staff input, we offer a curriculum which enables children to progress towards the early learning goals throughout the Foundation Stage. All staff have attended training in this area and are participating in ongoing training. Observation and record keeping systems ensure that each child’s development is identified and supported on an individual basis. For more information on the EYFS, follow the link.

Our aims

Our aims are: -
To enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age in a parent-involving, community-based group.
To provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
To work within a framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families.

We offer your child: -
A specially tailored curriculum leading to early learning goals.
Individual care and attention made possible by a high ratio of children to adults.
Fun and friendship with children and other adults.
Opportunities for you and your family to be directly involved, in the activities of the group and in your own child’s progress.

Fees

Funding is available for 3 & 4 year olds upon certain conditions being fulfilled and normally starts the term following the third birthday. Speak to the Treasurer or Supervisor if you have any queries.
Otherwise Pre-school fees are £3.50 per hour for each hour attended. They are payable half-termly in advance. These are non-refundable except in cases of hospital stays and school visits. In cases of prolonged absence, parents should consult the committee about fee payment. Each child’s attendance at the group is conditional upon continued payment of any necessary fees.

Special Needs

We aim to provide equality of opportunity for all members of our group, and this includes children with special educational needs. Our Pre-school is based on the first floor and access is not ideal for everyone. Please talk to our Chair or Supervisor to discuss your child’s requirements.

Policies

Our policy statements are available to read at any time and can be found on the Parent's windowsill. Copies are available on request. All our policies are designed to offer the best possible experience for the children and families in the group. Our policies are reviewed on a regular basis and comments and suggestions from parents are always welcome.

Decision making

The pre-school is run by an elected committee, which ensures that major decision making is in the hands of the parents who use the group. The committee is responsible for reviewing both policy and practice, and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff. Our Annual General Meeting, at which the committee for the following year is elected, is held in September.
