Outdoor Classroom

Outdoor Classroom - Every Wednesday Morning from 9.15 - 12.45

We are very lucky at Widecombe Pre-school to have a locally provided space for a regular outdoor Classroom session, which is hugely popular with children and parents alike.
On Wednesdays the children and staff walk to the Outdoor Classroom (after beginning and ending the session at the Church house like normal) with their packed lunches and enjoy a variety of activities in the fresh air.

What is an Outdoor Classroom?
Out Outdoor Classroom is a secure space in a local field, within easy walking distance of the Church House. There is a digging area, rope traverse, water play, willow dome, fire area with seating around it, seesaw and a homemade shelter.
Each week, activities take place in the Outdoor Classroom to tie in with the
Pre-school topics and children are encouraged to participate in this, reinforcing the subjects we are learning about each week. Children are also encouraged to independently choose their preferred activities and lead their own learning in this unique and stimulating environment. We aim to provide an ideal learning opportunity where children can achieve, and self-esteem can grow. Giving the children time to play in the Outdoor Classroom has fantastic results for their overall development. We encourage the children to learn about risk in controlled environment, giving them the tools they need for later on in life. Spending time in the outdoors can also have fantastic health and developmental benefits for your child.
