Jo Coaker - Pre-school Supervisor
Jo has been Supervisor since 1999. She holds an NNEB and relevant Early Years qualifications. She has also been a childminder for many years and has fantastic experience & skills with children of all ages and stages of development.
Within the group all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. By means of developmentally appropriate play activities and staff input, we offer a curriculum which enables children to progress towards the early learning goals throughout the Foundation Stage. All staff have attended training in this area and are participating in ongoing training. Observation and record keeping systems ensure that each child’s development is identified and supported on an individual basis. For more information on the EYFS, follow the link.
Our aims are: -
To enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age in a parent-involving, community-based group.
To provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
To work within a framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families.
We offer your child: -
A specially tailored curriculum leading to early learning goals.
Individual care and attention made possible by a high ratio of children to adults.
Fun and friendship with children and other adults.
Opportunities for you and your family to be directly involved, in the activities of the group and in your own child’s progress.
Our Safeguarding Children policy is kept on the Parent's windowsill in our Operational Plan and we also have other publications available regarding the welfare and safety of children, including "What to do if you are worried a child is being abused". Please speak to a member of staff if you have any safeguarding concerns. Copies are available on request. All our policies are designed to offer the best possible experience for the children and families in the group. Our policies are reviewed on a regular basis and comments and suggestions from parents are always welcome.
We aim to provide equality of opportunity for all members of our group, and this includes children with special educational needs. Our Pre-school is based on the first floor and access is not ideal for everyone. Please talk to our Chair or Supervisor to discuss your child’s requirements.
The pre-school is run by an elected committee, which ensures that major decision making is in the hands of the parents who use the group. The committee is responsible for reviewing both policy and practice, and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff. Our Annual General Meeting, at which the committee for the following year is elected, is held in July.
Funding is available for 3 & 4 year olds upon certain conditions being fulfilled and normally starts the term following the third birthday. Speak to the Treasurer or Supervisor if you have any queries.
Otherwise Pre-school fees from September 2016 are £3.70 per hour for each hour attended. They are payable half-termly in advance. These are non-refundable except in cases of hospital stays and school visits. In cases of prolonged absence, parents should consult the committee about fee payment. Each child’s attendance at the group is conditional upon continued payment of any necessary fees.
Evie Edworthy - Pre-school Deputy and Assistant
Evie has been working at Widecombe preschool since January 2016. She
gained qualified teacher status in 2009, teaching at a local primary school until making the move to preschool. Evie’s teacher training included music as her specialist subject, with the piano as her main instrument.
Sandra Zab - Pre-school Assistant
Sandra joined the team in September 2016 and holds an NVQ in Early Years Childcare and Education. Having worked in a local primary school for the past 11 years she decided it was time to return to her Early Years roots. Sandra worked with Jo at the Pre-school about 15 years ago and both her children attended the Pre-school and primary school. Sandra's grandson is now a regular at Widdytots.
